ZAZA TIMBER Builds EV Charging Stations in Nørresundby, Vejle, Fårup, Pårup in Denmark

31.05.2023.

In the first half of 2023 ZAZA TIMBER built timber canopies for ultra-fast electric vehicle charging stations in Nørresundby, Vejle, Fårup, Pårup in Denmark. The project is developed by Clever, a leading Danish company specializing in electric vehicle charging stations, and holistic mobility and charging solutions.

In this project ZAZA TIMBER group companies had responsibility for detailing, manufacturing all timber and steel structures, and assembly of timber structures. Glulam structures were made of FSC certified timber and manufactured in ZAZA TIMBER manufacturing plant in Latvia. Strunge Jensen A/S was general contractor. The EV charging station in Nørresundby is made of 9 canopies, in Vejle – 3, in Fårup – 6 , in Pårup – 6 canopies.

ZAZA TIMBER has been part of the project since 2020. Since then, it has built 82 canopies in 13 locations mainly in Denmark. You can learn more about the project development, challenges and improvements relating to design and assembly.

The project was developed by Clever and Danish architecture firm Cobe. The architectural concept is of a 5 meters tall and 7 meters wide timber canopy modelled on a tree. By connecting multiple modules, the stations can be built to varied sizes and configurations, meaning the concept can be executed in various locations. The concept includes a choice of renewable materials which can be recycled or upcycled. The roof is covered in plants, it requires minimal upkeep and aids biodiversity.

Clever and Cobe won several awards for this project, including the infrastructure award of the 2018 Danish Building Awards, ArchDaily’s Building of the Year Award 2020, and 2021 Danish Auto Award. The project is among Danish Design Awards 2022 finalists in Liveable Cities category.
