ZAZA TIMBER increases glulam production capacity with new large-format CNC machine

03.11.2025.

A digital transformation project co-financed by European Union funds has been implemented at the ZAZA TIMBER factory – a new CNC machine for processing large-format glulam structures has been installed. The new CNC “Oikos X”, manufactured by the Italian company “SCM Group”, is designed for processing straight glulam structures up to 125 cm wide and 30 cm high. It is equipped with a 13.5 m feed/output table, which ensures automated placement of workpieces to be processed on the workbench and removal from the workbench after processing. Without using automatic feed, it is possible to process even longer structures on the workbench.

Thanks to several dozen sensors, the new CNC machine ensures full automation of work, high processing accuracy and operational and work safety of the machine. Glulam processing on this machine is twice as fast as on ZAZA TIMBER’s previous CNCs, which require manual placement of structures and enetring of coordinates. The new CNC machine performs all the operations necessary for processing timber structures – cutting, slotting, drilling and milling in five axes, thus allowing the production of glulam structures of the highest complexity.

This is the third CNC installed at the ZAZA TIMBER factory. It complements the capabilities already provided by the large-format CNC machine of the Swiss company “TechnoWood”, which is designed for processing straight and curved wooden structures up to 32 meters long, 4 meters wide and 1 meter high in five axes. In turn, the second, CNC of the company “Hundegger”, is used for simpler processing of smaller-sized structures.

The project “Purchase and installation of a programmable computer-controlled processing workbench SCM Oikos X with a 13.5 m feed/output table” is being implemented in accordance with contract No. 281881/01, concluded with the Joint-Stock Company “Development Financial Institution Altum”. The total budget of the project is EUR 594,000, of which the EU loan and grant is EUR 415,940; implementation period – from December 2024 to October 2025. The aim of the project is to promote the digital transformation of “ZAZA TIMBER Production SIA” by renovating and streamlining existing production and other equipment necessary for the digitalization of processes and purchasing new equipment.
