Glulam Structures Manufacturer IKTK (ZAZA TIMBER Production) Increased Turnover to €1.3 million in 2020

30.04.2021.

(In August, 2021, IKTK changed its name to ZAZA TIMBER Production.)

In 2020, the Latvia-based manufacturer of glued laminated timber structures IKTK operated with a €1.301 million turnover, a 3% increase year-over-year compared with 2019. More than 75% of IKTK’s production is being exported and used to build public buildings and bridges elsewhere in Europe.
In 2020, IKTK fulfilled more than 150 orders.
Executive Director Gatis Eglītis explains: “The glulam structures manufactured by IKTK are valued for their high load strength and the fact that they can be manufactured in different shapes and at large sizes. Our largest manufacturing projects in 2020 were structures for a four-storey school in Stavanger, Norway; traffic and pedestrian bridges in Norway; pedestrian bridges in Navarre, Spain; and a traffic bridge over the Ječupe river in Latvia. A large, innovative project we completed in 2020 was the manufacture of spherical acoustic panels for the Mežaparks Great Stage in Riga.”

At the end of 2020, IKTK’s assets came to €5,624,333, 92% of which are investments in fixed assets. The company’s equity is positive; it comes to €897,809 and comprises 16% of the total balance. The company ended 2020 with a loss of €438,732, which can be explained by the more than half a million in annual depreciation deductions after last year’s investments.

In 2020, IKTK began the company’s third-phase development project. By 2022, the project aims to construct more than 2,500 m2 in warehouse and manufacturing space for finishing processes for completed glulam structures. Provisional investment in the project is €2.5 million, including planned co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund. In the past, IKTK has also developed gradually: the first phase of the factory was unveiled in 2015, and the second phase was implemented in 2019 with the construction of a second manufacturing building with CNC processing at its heart as well as the construction of an office building.

Although the company’s turnover increased in 2020, IKTK’s operations as well as construction as a whole were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic caused instability in several of the company’s markets, made construction and moving between countries more complicated, caused fluctuations in the currency markets, and limited the company’s operations due to the epidemiological situation in Latvia.

IKTK Chairman of the Board Māris Peilāns notes:“Worldwide, demand for the use of wood in construction is increasing, both due to its great qualities and because wood is a renewable resource. Over the past few years, both IKTK and other Latvian businesses have built a good reputation outside of Latvia for our wooden structure manufacturing, but this surprising year reminded us that we have to aim to provide clients even greater added value and aim for higher return on investment as a business. The pandemic helped us to define IKTK’s operational model with even more clarity: project-based, custom manufacturing, implementing a client’s order from A to Z with custom manufacturing and finishing solutions, ability to cater for large dimensions of great variety of details, and flexibility while manufacturing and in customer service. Our role is to allow as much as possible to be done in our factory, ensuring the construction on the site is fast, precise, and saves the client time and money.”

KTK (now: ZAZA TIMBER Production) specialises in manufacturing glulam structures for buildings and bridges commissioned by construction companies worldwide. The company manufactures curved and straight structures of up to 32 metres long and 2,1 m high, and provides highly precise and complex finishes that include milling, drilling, slotting, and cutting using its 5-axis CNC processing equipment, surface treatment, and various coupling solutions.

IKTK began operating in 2015. Structures made by IKTK have been used for building in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Spain, Russia, Lithuania, the United States, South Korea and the Netherlands – to build traffic, pedestrian and ski bridges; manufacturing, office and residential buildings; schools; sports facilities; hotels; concert halls; and petrol and electric charging stations. The company employs 25 people and is located in Raubēni, Ozolnieki parish, Latvia.

The products manufactured by the company comply with EN 14080 standards. IKTK is FSC certified and supports the sustainable use of forests.
